Citi Open: Griekspoor goes through Monfils to reach quarter-finals

Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 12 seed, reached the last 8 of the Citi Open by beating French wildcard Gael Monfils (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Friday evening.

Griekspoor, ranked No 37, will face No 16 seed J.J. Wolf next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, the Dutchman won against Liam Broady (6-4, 6-2).

Monfils, ranked No 323, defeated American qualifier Bjorn Fratangelo (6-3, 6-4) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Washington D.C. tournament.
