Citi Open: Kovacevic reaches last 16

American Aleksandar Kovacevic reached the last 16 of the Citi Open by winning against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 11 seed, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.

Kovacevic, ranked No 82, will face American Frances Tiafoe, the No 5 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, the American defeated Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
