Citi Open: Qualifier Krueger into second round as Nardi retires

American qualifier Mitchell Krueger advanced to the second round of the Citi Open when Italian Luca Nardi retired on Tuesday at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.

Krueger, ranked No 192 in the world, led 7-6 (3), 4-1 when Nardi, ranked No 78, pulled out of the tournament.

The American will play No 8 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina next.
