Australia’s Nick Kyrgios advanced to the second round of the Citi Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday night with a straight sets win over American Marcos Giron.

Kyrgios, playing his first singles match since reaching the final of Wimbledon last month, needed 59 minutes to beat Giron 6-3, 6-2.

The Australian hit 12 aces in the contest and saved the only break point he faced against his serve while converting three of six break points he had.

Kyrgios, who pulled out of the Atlanta singles draw last week but went on to capture the doubles title there with countryman Thanasi Kokkiankis, will next meet 14th seeded American Tommy Paul.

The Australian, ranked 63rd in the world, has a 1-0 record over Paul, winning their clash on clay in Houston earlier this year in straight sets.
