American Alex Michelsen, the No 15 seed, won against Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci 6-3, 7-6 (1) to move into the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Michelsen, ranked No 60, will face the winner of the match between qualifier Seong-Chan Hong and Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed, next.
Bellucci, ranked No 125, defeated American Mackenzie McDonald (7-6 (4), 7-6 (3)) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament.
