Citi Open: Van De Zandschulp wins three-hour marathon to reach last 16

Botic van de Zandschulp edged out Borna Gojo 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-4 on Tuesday night and will face the winner of the match between wildcard Christopher Eubanks and No 10 seed Frances Tiafoe in the next round

Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 8 seed, edged out Croat qualifier Borna Gojo 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday.

The match lasted three hours and six minutes with both players managing to save multiple break points on their own serve.

Van De Zandschulp was able to convert two of 11 break point chances while Gojo was able to win only one of six chances that he earned.

Van De Zandschulp, ranked No 26, will face the winner of the match between wildcard Christopher Eubanks and No 10 seed Frances Tiafoe next.
