Japanese Yosuke Watanuki reached the second round of the Citi Open when China’s Yibing Wu retired on Monday afternoon at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington.

Watanuki, ranked No 99, led 1-4 when Wu, ranked No 90, collapsed on court and was forced to pull out of the match on Monday afternoon at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington.

Wu required assistance standing after collapsing face-first into his chair at the changeover, seemingly in and out of consciousness. A similar incident occurred for 23-year-old at Wimbledon last month against Frances Tiafoe, with the Chinese player able to recover and continue the match.

Watanuki will face No 3 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime next.
