Wu became the first Chinese player to ever claim an ATP title when he saved four championship points to defeat John Isner in the Dallas Open final, 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 7-6(12). Prior to the Dallas Open a Chinese player had never been beyond an ATP semi-final, and that had not happened since 1995.
Why did Wu miss nearly three seasons, from 2019 to 2022?
Wu suffered a litany of injuries, and did not compete from March of 2019 to December of 2021. He dealt with elbow, back, shoulder and wrist injuries and underwent elbow surgery in 2020.
