Citi Open: Wolf upsets Shapovalov to reach last 16

J.J. Wolf defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 on Wednesday and will play Dane Holger Rune, the No 9 seed, in the next round

American wildcard J.J. Wolf defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 6 seed, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Wednesday.

Wolf, ranked No 99, will play Dane Holger Rune, the No 9 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Citi Open, Washington D.C., the American won against Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel (6-2, 6-3).

With the loss, Shapovalov has now lost eight of his last nine matches on the tour.
