Italian Luciano Darderi beat Argentinian Facundo Bagnis 6-1, 6-4 to win the Cordoba Open final at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes on Sunday night.

In what was a battle of the qualifiers, Darderi reigned supreme, claiming the first ATP title of his career. The 21-year-old, ranked No 136 in the world, had only ever played three matches on the ATP Tour ahead of the Cordoba Open.

Darderi now leaps up 60 places in the ATP rankings, moving to No 76 in the world and making his top 100 debut.

Earlier in the tournament, Darderi, ranked No 136, defeated Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera (4-6, 6-1, 6-2), Austrian Sebastian Ofner, the No 4 seed (6-0, 6-3), German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 7 seed (7-6 (2), 6-1) and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the second seed (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).

Bagnis, ranked No 207, defeated wildcard Juan Manuel Cerundolo (6-4, 6-2), Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 8 seed (7-6 (5), 6-4), Spaniard Jaume Munar (7-5, 6-4) and Federico Coria (6-3, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Cordoba tournament.
