Croatia Open: Top seed Lehecka ousted by Italian Arnaldi in quarter-finals

Matteo Arnaldi edged out Jiri Lehecka 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Friday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Australian Alexei Popyrin and Croat wildcard Dino Prizmic in the next round

Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the No 7 seed, stunned top seed Jiri Lehecka 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Croatia Open at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Friday.

Arnaldi, ranked No 76, will play the winner of the match between Australian Alexei Popyrin and Croat wildcard Dino Prizmic next.

In the previous rounds of the Umag tournament, the 22-year-old Italian won against Dutch qualifier Jesper De Jong (6-3, 6-2) and Flavio Cobolli (6-3, 7-6 (5)).

Lehecka, ranked No 33, beat Austrian Dominic Thiem (6-3, 7-5) in the previous round of the Umag tournament.
