Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 4 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Croatia Open by winning against Japanese Taro Daniel 6-3, 6-1 at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Thursday.
Carballes Baena, ranked No 59, will face the winner of the match between Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 6 seed, and Argentinian Federico Coria next.
