Dutch Open: Thompson reaches final after beating compatriot Hijikata

Jordan Thompson defeated Rinky Hijikata 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Saturday and will play the winner of the match between Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 6 seed, and Finn Emil Ruusuvuori in the final

Jordan Thompson reached the final of the Dutch Open by winning against lucky loser Rinky Hijikata 7-6 (5), 6-3 at the Autotron Rosmalen in s-Hertogenbosch on Saturday.

Thompson, ranked No 103, will face the winner of the match between Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 6 seed, and Finn Emil Ruusuvuori next.

Thompson returns to the final having finished as runner-up in 2019 to Adrian Mannarino.

Jordan Thompson defeated French qualifier Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-4, 7-6 (3)), Canadian Milos Raonic (7-6 (4), 6-1) and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Hijikata, ranked No 133, won against Dutch wildcard Gijs Brouwer (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2), Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (2-6, 7-5, 6-3) and American Mackenzie McDonald (5-7, 6-3, 6-1).
