Estoril Open: Hurkacz makes first semi-final on clay

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, reached the semi-finals of the Estoril Open by winning against Spanish qualifier Pablo Llamas Ruiz 7-6 (4), 6-4 at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Friday afternoon.

Hurkacz, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Chilean Cristian Garin and Portuguese Nuno Borges next.

It is his first career ATP level semi-final on clay court, at his 24th main draw appearance in tournaments on this surface.

The Pole defeated qualifier Jan Choinski (7-6 (5), 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Estoril tournament, Llamas Ruiz, ranked No 152, beat German Dominik Koepfer, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-3) and lucky loser David Jorda Sanchis (7-6 (2), 6-4).
