Etcheverry through to Houston semi-finals after Mmoh injury

Tomas Martin Etcheverry is through to the Houston semi-finals after Michael Mmoh retired injured (6-3, 0-1) on Friday evening. He’ll play Ben Shelton or Brandon Nakashima next

Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 4 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Houston Open when American wildcard Michael Mmoh retired on Friday evening at River Oaks Country Club.

Etcheverry, ranked No 30, led 6-3, 0-1 when Mmoh, ranked No 123, pulled out on Friday evening due to injury. Classy as always, the Argentinian wrote, “Get well soon, Michael” on the camera after the match.

The Argentinian will face the winner of the match between top seed Ben Shelton and Brandon Nakashima next.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Houston tournament, the American won against Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (6-2, 7-6 (4)) and Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed (6-2, 7-5).
