European Open: Varillas recovers to defeat Shevchenko and advance to quarter-finals
Juan Pablo Varillas beat Alexander Shevchenko 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and will play the winner of the match between Arthur Fils and Mark Lajal in the next round

Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, the No 8 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Open by beating Russian Alexander Shevchenko 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp.
Varillas, ranked No 69, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 4 seed, and Estonian wildcard Mark Lajal next.
The Peruvian won against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-6 (7), 6-4) in the previous round of the Antwerp Open.
In the previous round of the Antwerp Open, Shevchenko, ranked No 84, won against French qualifier Benjamin Bonzi (6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-3).
