Musetti thrills home crowd by reaching semi-finals in Florence

Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 3 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Florence Open by winning against American Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-2 at the Palazzo Wanny on Friday evening.

Musetti, ranked No 28, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the top seed, and American Brandon Nakashima, the No 8 seed.

The 20-year-old Italian defeated Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles (6-3, 6-0) in the previous round in Florence.

Earlier in the tournament, McDonald, ranked No 79, won against No 6 seed Jenson Brooksby (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) and Italian wildcard Francesco Passaro (6-4, 7-5).
