Geneva Open: Popyrin eases past Fearnley to move into quarter-finals

Alexei Popyrin beat Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday evening and will face the winner of the match between qualifier Cameron Norrie and No 3 seed Tomas Machac in the next round

Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 5 seed, won against Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last eight of the Geneva Open at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives.

Popyrin, ranked No 25, will face the winner of the match between qualifier Cameron Norrie and No 3 seed Tomas Machac next.

The Australian edged out Chilean Nicolas Jarry (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Geneva tournament, Fearnley, ranked No 54, beat Serb wildcard Dusan Lajovic (6-4, 6-1).
