Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of Halle by winning against German wildcard Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (6), 6-3 at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Thursday evening.

Rublev, ranked No 7, will face the winner of the match between Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 6 seed, next.

The Russian defeated Chinese Yibing Wu (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2) in the previous round of the Halle Open.

In the previous round of the Halle Open, Hanfmann, ranked No 53, won against qualifier Louis Wessels (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
