Italian Lorenzo Sonego won against Russian lucky loser Aslan Karatsev 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to advance to the second round of Halle at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Tuesday.
Sonego, ranked No 39, will play Jannik Sinner, the No 4 seed, next.
