Hamburg Open: Fils books spot in quarter-finals

Frenchman Arthur Fils reached the quarter-finals of the Hamburg Open by beating Serb Dusan Lajovic 7-5, 7-5 at Am Rothenbaum on Thursday afternoon.

Fils, ranked No 71, will play the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed, and Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin next.

Ahead of his victory, the 19-year-old Frenchman won against Colombian lucky loser Daniel Elahi Galan (7-5, 7-5).

Lajovic, ranked No 60, won against No 8 seed Miomir Kecmanovic (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) in the previous round of the Hamburg tournament.
