Hamburg Open: Hanfmann reaches second round after Cerundolo retirement

German Yannick Hanfmann advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open when Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 5 seed, retired on Tuesday evening at Am Rothenbaum.

Hanfmann, ranked No 45, led 4-6, 6-2, 4-2 when Cerundolo, ranked No 21, pulled out on Tuesday evening at Am Rothenbaum.

The German will play the winner of the match between qualifier Jan Choinski and Chinese Zhizhen Zhang next.
