Hamburg Open: Molcan makes semi-finals after Coric’s retirement

Slovak Alex Molcan advanced to the last four of the Hamburg Open when Croat Borna Coric retired at Am Rothenbaum on Friday evening.

Molcan, ranked No 48, led 7-6 (7), 2-0 when Coric, ranked No 183, pulled out at Am Rothenbaum on Friday evening.

The Slovak will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, next.

Alex Molcan won against German qualifier Marko Topo (7-5, 6-3) and edged out Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 4 seed (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds.

The Croat defeated Serb Laslo Djere (1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3) and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-3, 6-4).
