Hamburg Open: Rublev survives scare against Darderi, into last four

Andrey Rublev won against Luciano Darderi 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon. He’ll play either Alexandre Muller or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the next round

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open by winning against Italian Luciano Darderi 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at Tennis Stadion.

Rublev, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Alexandre Muller and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 6 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Russian beat Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (6-4, 6-3) and German wildcard Justin Engel (6-3, 7-5).

Darderi, ranked No 45, won against German wildcard Diego Dedura-Palomero (6-1, 6-4) and American Brandon Nakashima, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Hamburg tournament.
