American Frances Tiafoe, the second seed, beat Chinese Yunchaokete Bu 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Hamburg Open at Tennis Stadion on Tuesday.
Tiafoe, ranked No 15, will play Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut next.
