American Aleksandar Kovacevic beat Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Monday.
Kovacevic, ranked No 79, will play French qualifier Corentin Denolly next.
