American qualifier Colton Smith won against Australian James Duckworth 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Tuesday.
Smith, ranked No 200, will play the winner of the match between American wildcard Ethan Quinn and Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, next.
