American wildcard Ethan Quinn beat Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the second round of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Tuesday.
Quinn, ranked No 130, will face American qualifier Colton Smith next.
