Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, beat American Sebastian Korda, the No 28 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the Miami Masters at the Hard Rock Stadium on Monday evening.
As expected, the clash was a serve-a-thon, with both players serving 10+ aces and winning 84+ percent of first serve points across the match. Hurkacz, however, was able to secure a crucial break in the deciding set, which made the difference in an encounter that saw only four break points in total across two hours, 15 minutes.
Hurkacz, ranked No 9, will next play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 11 seed, who beat German Yannick Hanfmann in the another match.
The Pole won against Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko (6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Miami Open, Korda, ranked No 29, edged out Spanish qualifier Roberto Bautista Agut (6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4).
