“I look forward to seeing everyone in October” – Federer to attend Shanghai Masters as Icon Athlete

The Swiss is a two-time champion at the Shanghai Masters, which returns to the ATP calendar for the first time since 2019

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer, who retired from the sport last September, will make an appearance at the Rolex Shanghai Masters later this year as the tournament’s Icon Athlete.

The Shanghai Masters returns to the ATP calendar after a gap of four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament, which Federer won twice in his career, expands to a 96-player draw this year and will be played over 12 days,  from October 4 to 15  4-15 October at the QiZhong Tennis Centre.

With the world’s top players and the rise of Chinese tennis stars Zhang Zhizhen, Wu Yibing and Shang Juncheng, the tournament promises to be a treat for Chinese tennis fans.

“I’m very excited to be named Rolex Shanghai Masters Icon Athlete for 2023,” Federer said. “I remember coming to Shanghai for the first time for the opening of the stadium and I have been close friends with Juss Event and tournament organisers. I am happy to keep the story going and I look forward to seeing everyone in October.”

Federer, who was recently seen at the Met Gala in New York and the Miami F1 Grand Prix, is also expected to make an appearance at Wimbledon this year.
