Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of Holger Rune (and the co-founder of Tennis Majors) says he loves the fact that the Danish teen is so passionate about the sport and that he tries to channel his emotions in the right manner during matches, in the latest episode of The Eye of the Coach.

Rune’s high-voltage game and personality have seen him propel into the world’s top 10 and become one of the brightest young stars in the game. But at the same time, the Dane has been criticized for showing too much emotion on the court.

Mouratgolou, who has been part of Rune’s coaching team since the last quarter of 2022, opines that Rune he personally likes Rune’s passion and energy on-court even as they work together to utilise that emotion more effectively.

“In Monte-Carlo, in a few matches, he’s been able to take a lot of emotion out, but not in a way that would affect his game and in a way play with the crowd and have the crowd lift him up. And I think it was a big asset for him,” Mouratoglou told Tennis Majors in a new episode of Eye of the Coach.

I love the fact that he’s so passionate on the court and it’s great and I think’s it also great for the crowd.

“Sometimes, it can be negative for him and this is what we work on to try to get out of the way. I think he’s doing well and he’s improving a lot there. I love the fact that he’s so passionate on the court and it’s great and I think’s it also great for the crowd. And I love the fact that he’s trying to channel himself to be as efficient as he can during a match, because when the emotion too big, too high, it also consumes the player. And at some point, the tank can be empty when you need it. And this is what happened maybe in the (Monte-Carlo) final against Andrey Rublev.”
