There were painful scenes on court as Holger Rune struggled with the Mexican Open conditions against Alex de Minaur in the semi-final.

The 19-year-old was clearly in discomfort and suffering from cramp – but his coach Patrick Mouratoglou has confirmed that the team will be heading straight to the BNP Paribas Open, with no injuries sustained.

“Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but every time we learn. Here we come BNP Paribas Open !” the Frenchman wrote on Facebook and Instagram.

Rune will be at a new career-high ranking of world No 8 on Monday as he heads into the Sunshine Double. At last year’s Indian Wells, he had to come through qualifying to the main draw, where he fell in the round of 64 to Matteo Berrettini.
