Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 8 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Japan Open by beating Austrian Sebastian Ofner 6-4, 6-1 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Wednesday night.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 17, will face the winner of the match between American qualifier Marcos Giron and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, next.

It’s the first time the Canadian has won back to back matches at ATP Tour level since Indian Wells in March.

In the previous round of the Tokyo Open, the Canadian won against Australian Aleksandar Vukic (7-6 (3), 6-7 (2), 6-2).

Ofner, ranked No 47, edged out Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 7-5) in the previous round of the Tokyo Open.
