Australian Alexei Popyrin moved into the second round of the Japan Open by winning against Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 7 seed, 6-4, 6-2 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Tuesday night.

Popyrin, ranked No 41, will play Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin next.
