Korea Open: Kovacevic, No 222, moves into quarter-finals

Aleksandar Kovacevic won against Chun-Hsin Tseng 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-2 on Thursday

American lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic won against Chun-Hsin Tseng 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the Korea Open at the Seoul Olympic Park on Thursday.

Kovacevic, ranked No 222 and aged 24, will play the winner of the match between Japanese lucky loser Shintaro Mochizuki and American Mackenzie McDonald next.

It is only his third ATP event in career, qualifications included. Seoul is Kovacevic’s firs main draw despite his loss against Nicolas Jarry (7-6, 6-3) at the qualifications.

The American beat Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous round of the Seoul. Tseng, ranked No 88, benefited from the abandonment of Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 0-0).
