Madrid Masters: Khachanov books spot in last 16 after bad-tempered spat with Bautista Agut

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 10 seed, defeated Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 20 seed, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica on Sunday.

Khachanov, ranked No 12, will face Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, next.

The pair had a cross exchange at the net after Bautista Agut had been angered by a line call earlier in the match.

Ahead of his victory, the Russian won against Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

Bautista Agut, ranked No 25, beat Frenchman Quentin Halys (4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
