Madrid Masters: Muller edges past Humbert to move into third round

Alexandre Muller edged out No 21 seed Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5) to move into the third round of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Mágica.

Muller, ranked No 39, will play the winner of the match between American Frances Tiafoe, the No 16 seed, and Italian Luciano Darderi next.

Alexandre Muller benefited from the abandonment of Belgian David Goffin (6-3, 3-6, 1-0) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
