Marrakech Open: Berrettini makes first semi-final since 2022

Matteo Berrettini beat No 4 seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 7-6 (5) to reach the semi-finals of the Marrakech Open at Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Friday evening.
It will be his first semi-final since Naples in 2022.
This was his 50th tour-level win on clay, making him the fourth Italian man currently playing to reach that target (with Fognini, Cecchinato and Bolelli).
Berrettini, ranked No 135, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Mariano Navone, the No 7 seed, and Australian Aleksandar Vukic next.
Berrettini won against Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko, the No 6 seed (6-2, 6-1) and Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Marrakech tournament, Sonego, ranked No 61, edged out Indian Sumit Nagal (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
