Marrakech Open: Kotov misses out on final

Alexandre Muller defeated Pavel Kotov 7-6 (3), 7-5 on Saturday evening and will play Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena for the title

Frenchman Alexandre Muller advanced to the final of the Marrakech Open by winning against Russian Pavel Kotov 7-6 (3), 7-5 at the Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Saturday evening.

Muller, ranked No 126, will play Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena next.

The Frenchman defeated No 6 seed Richard Gasquet (6-4, 6-4), Italian Francesco Passaro (6-4, 6-4) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the top seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Moroccan Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Kotov, ranked No 114, beat Spaniard Pedro Martinez (6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (5)), Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, the No 7 seed (6-0, 7-6 (2)) and Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (3)).
