Marseille Open: Fils dismisses Wawrinka to reach semi-finals

French wildcard Arthur Fils moved into the semi-finals of the Marseille Open by defeating Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3 at the Palais des sports de Marseille on Friday.

Fils, ranked No 118, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi and Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the 18-year-old Frenchman won against Russian Roman Safiullin (6-4, 6-3) and Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed (W/O).

Wawrinka, ranked No 105, edged out Belgian Zizou Bergs (6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-4) and won against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, the No 7 seed (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Open de Provence.
