Tomas Machac reached the second round of the Marseille Open by winning against Andy Murray 7-5, 6-4 at the Palais des sports on Tuesday evening.

Machac, ranked No 66, will play Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 6 seed, next.

Murray is still seeking his first win of the year, which would be the 20th consecutive year in which he had secured a match victory on the ATP tour.

The former world No 1 has not won a match since October, and has now lost his last six on the bounce.

“When you can’t win, you also lose confidence. I’ve never experienced that in my career,” Murray told L’Equipe. “When I lost early one week, I usually managed to do better the following week. Now I’m losing more often, and I don’t have the experience for that… (…) The only way is to find solutions to win matches.”
