How many times have Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner played each other?

The pair have met 11 times on the ATP Tour following their most recent meeting in the semi-final of the 2024 Miami Open – which Sinner won in comprehensive fashion, racing past Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour. Medvedev still leads 6-5 overall.

Daniil Medvedev dominated the rivalry in the initial stages, winning the first six matches, with three of those coming in straight sets. This included wins for the Russian in the finals in Rotterdam and Miami in 2023.

Since then, however, Sinner has flipped the tables, winning the last five on the trot against Medvedev.

Sinner got his first win over Medvedev in the Beijing final in October 2023 and then followed it up with a second win in a row in the Vienna final later the same month, before winning a third straight match against the Russian by beating him 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-1 in the semi-finals of the 2023 ATP Finals.

Sinner’s fourth victory came in stunning style, with the pair meeting in the Australian Open final. Medvedev adopted an uncharacteristically attacking style of tennis, which very nearly led the Russian to his first victory over Sinner in four attempts. However, Sinner came back in the nick of time, defeating Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to claim his maiden Grand Slam title.

With Sinner’s most recent win in Miami, he has now won five matches in a row against Medvedev, improving to 5-6 in their head-to head.

How many titles for Medvedev and Sinner?

Medvedev, aged 28, has won 20 ATP singles titles, the biggest one of them being the US Open in 2021 and the ATP Finals in 2020. The Russian has also won six ATP Masters titles.

Interestingly, Medvedev has never won the same event twice so far.

Aged 22, Sinner has won 12 ATP singles titles, the biggest of which came in Melbourne in 2024. Eleven of his 12 titles have come on hardcourts and the other on clay.

In terms of win-loss ratio, going into the Miami final, Medvedev has a career record of 351 wins against 140 losses which translates to a winning percentage of 71.4 percent.

Sinner, on the other hand, has a win-loss record of 211 wins against 75 losses which equates to a winning percentage of 73.8 percent.

Which has been the best match between Medvedev and Sinner?

Three of the clashes stand out between the pair. Of course, the 2024 Australian Open final was a real spectacular, with Sinner recovering from two sets down to pick up his first major. It was also a match in which history repeated itself for Medvedev, who had gone two sets to love up against Rafael Nadal on the same stage two years before, and lost in five.

At the 2021 ATP Finals in the round-robin stage, Medvedev defeated Sinner in a wild contest, eventually winning 6-0, 6-7(5), 7-6(8).

In 2023, the pair played a close contest in the Vienna final which the Italian went on to win 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3.
