Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, edged out Argentinian qualifier Guido Andreozzi 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (2) to advance to the second round of the Mexican Open at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Monday.

Ruud, ranked No 4, will face Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel next.
