American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Miami Masters by beating Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 24 seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
Fritz, ranked No 10, will play Dane Holger Rune, the No 7 seed, next.
The American won against wildcard Emilio Nava (6-4, 6-1) in the previous round of the Miami Open. Shapovalov, ranked No 30, defeated Argentinian Guido Pella (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
