Miami Open: Halys saves three match points and shocks De Minaur for his first top 20 win

Quentin Halys edged out Alex De Minaur 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (8) on Saturday evening. He’ll face American Mackenzie McDonald in the next round

Frenchman Quentin Halys moved into the third round of the Miami Masters by edging out Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 15 seed, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (8) at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday evening.

The victory marks the first top 20 win of Halys’ career, in his seventh match against a top 20 player.

The Frenchman save a total of three match points – one in the second set while serving at 4-5, 30-40, and two more in the deciding-set tiebreak, at 6-5 and 8-7.

Halys, ranked No 79, will play American Mackenzie McDonald next.

Ahead of his victory, the Frenchman defeated Spaniard Pedro Martinez (6-2, 7-6 (4)).
