Frenchman Gael Monfils, the No 7 seed, won against Portuguese wildcard Henrique Rocha 7-5, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Estoril Open at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Wednesday evening.
Monfils, ranked No 45, will face Hungarian Marton Fucsovics next.
