Karen Khachanov, the No 15 seed, reached the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters by defeating Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.
The Russian had to fight back from a set down against talented clay-courter Cerundolo in what was a closely fought contest.
Ultimately, the big-serving Khachanov had too much for the Argentine and earned another notable clay-court victory following his win over Cameron Norrie in the first round.
Khachanov, ranked No 17, will face the winner of the match between French wildcard Gael Monfils and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Monte-Carlo tournament, Cerundolo, ranked No 22, won against German lucky loser Daniel Altmaier (6-2, 7-6 (3)).
