Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili reached the second round of the Montpellier Open when Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin retired on Wednesday afternoon at the Sud de France Arena.
Basilashvili, ranked No 178, led 6-3, 3-6, 5-0 when Kukushkin, ranked No 112, pulled out at the Sud de France Arena on Wednesday.
The Georgian will face No 7 seed Arthur Rinderknech next.
