Daniel Evans edged out American Tommy Paul 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the last four of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Friday night.

Evans, ranked No 39, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta and qualifier Jack Draper next.

Evans reaches his second Masters 1000 semi-final with his comeback win. The Brit survived a blistering start from Paul and showed a lot of fortitude to eke out the win.

“You wonder if it’s going to happen, if you are going to get into the match, and I got in,” said Evans. “When I got ahead I really took it to Tommy and that’s been sort of my way throughout this week so far, and I went about it in a good way, I was fired up and I thought it was a good battle between me and Tommy.”

Ahead of his victory, Daniel Evans won against Serb Filip Krajinovic (6-2, 1-6, 6-0), Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-4) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 10 seed (7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-5).

Paul, ranked No 34, defeated Canadian wildcard Vasek Pospisil (6-4, 6-4), Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed (6-7 (4), 7-6 (7), 6-3) and Croat Marin Čilić, the No 13 seed (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
