Madrid Masters: Dimitrov beats Fearnley after power-outage delay to make last 16

Grigor Dimitrov, the No 15 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Madrid Masters by winning against qualifier Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the Caja Mágica.

Having had squandered a match point and served for the match yesterday, the Bulgarian missed the opportunity to wrap up this contest before a nationwide power outage halted proceedings.

With power restored, Dimitrov was clinical on today’s restart, however, as he cruised through a second-set tiebreak to seal victory against the ever impressive young Briton.

Dimitrov, ranked No 16, will face the winner of the match between Cameron Norrie and Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo next.

The 33-year-old Bulgarian defeated Chilean Nicolas Jarry (6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, Fearnley, ranked No 68, won against Chinese Yunchaokete Bu (6-3, 7-6 (2)) and No 19 seed Tomas Machac (1-6, 6-3, 6-2).
